The 2nd International Conference on Advanced Information and Telemedicine Technologies for Health (AITTH’2008), Minsk, Belarus, October 01-03, 2008

The 2nd International Conference on Advanced Information and Telemedicine Technologies for Health (AITTH’2008) took place in Minsk, Belarus, on 1-3 October. It was organized by the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences (UIIP) of Belarus and co-funded by ISTC.
The conference aims were to discuss fundamental problems of computerization of health care and medical research based on advanced information technologies and intelligent systems for computer-assisted diagnosis in public health services, to disseminate research results, to share relevant experience and to co-ordinate activities on the development and implementation of telemedicine systems. More then 120 scientists from Russia, the CIS, America and Asia attended the conference and they discussed the following topics:
  • Medical image analysis
  • Bioinformatics, Structural Biology and Comparative Genomics
  • Modeling biomedical processes
  • Decision Support and Expert Systems
  • Computerized diagnosis and treatment
  • Computerized cardiology
  • Information technology for health care
  • Telemedicine
  • ISTC Special Session

During the conference plenary and section sessions 85 presentations were given, 8 of them in the frame of an ISTC Special session, which was chaired by Director of the Belarusian Research Centre for Paediatric Oncology and Hematology Prof. Olga Aleynikova and Deputy Director of the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Prof. A.V. Tuzikov (Chairman of the Conference).

Results of the Conference were published in: National Academy Science of Belarus web-site (http://nasb.gov.by), UIIP web-page (uiip.bas-net.by), konferencii.ru, Information and Analytical Center on Parallel Computing (parallel.ru), Image Sciences Institute (www.isi.uu.nl), Telemedicine and Telehealth Meetings (tie.telemed.org ).

Enteric Bacteria and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (EBIBD), Sevan, Armenia, October 03-05, 2008

The International Conference on Enteric Bacteria and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) took place in Tsakhkadzor on 2-4 October 2008. The objective of the conference was to provide a unique environment in which researchers and practitioners could openly present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, experiences and concerns in the field of IBD. IBD is a disease of northern countries, which is more distributed among urban population. However, the quantity of patients increased in Southern Europe, Japan and Asian countries in parallel to improving the life quality during the latest decades. Genetic peculiarities of some Semitic groups of population create the necessary prerequisites for the disease. The intestinal microbiota plays an important role in the pathogenesis of IBD, both ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, but particularly in familiar Mediterranean fever disease (FMF). The better characterization of enteric bacteria helps greatly in developing therapies that are more effective. More than 50 physicians, microbiologists and psychologists, scientists and practitioners from Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Europe, the USA and Japan participated in the conference. Collaboration established at the conference considerably strengthened the practical orientation of investigations of medical microbiology, biotechnology, as well as the efficiency of international cooperation in the fields of IBD.

ISTC held a special session during the conference. ISTC Projects on microflora of gastrointestinal diseases, ecological pollution, regulation of intestinal microflora and development of diagnostic methods were presented and discussed. Conference Proceedings have been published
